Writing 17: Film piracy

When someone wants to see a film, he usually goes to the cinema or see what's on TV. But sometimes we can't find the film we want, and many people download films, even if they know they're breaking the law.

Most of the times people will have to pay to watch a film legally. A lot of workers are needed to make a film. The money they earn is the money people spend buying them or going to the cinema to watch it, so, if we don't pay to watch a film, they don't earn money. In addition, there are estimated 146 millions visits every day to just 43 of the world's digital piracy sites.

In the last few years, we have known about some platforms to watch films and series, like Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime Video. These platforms make you pay a small amount of money to watch films legally. A survey in Norway has shown that three quarters of internet users prefer to pay this small amount of money and watch films legally.

In conclusion, it is said that people prefer to download films illegally, but mostly prefer to pay. Reports suggest that, because of these platforms the piracy is decreasing

Luke: Excuse me, can you tell me about this tablet?

Assistant: Of course. What would you like to know?

Luke: Well, how much memory has it got?

Assistant: It has 16GB of memory. It isn't much memory if you are going to install many apps and take many photos , but you can get much more memory with a memory card.

Luke: OK. And is it easy to use?

Assistant: Yes, it's very easy, and quite fast, too!

Luke: Oh, right! Has it got a camera?

Assistant: Yes. The camera is seven megapixels.

Luke: What's the sound? For music, I mean.

Assistant: The sound is excellent. Anyway, it comes with a pair of earphones which volume  is quite loud, so you don't have to put the tablet on maximum volume.

Luke: Right. How long does the battery last?

Assistant: About eighteen hours of screen time.

Luke: Wow! That's very long! And does it have Wi-fi?

Assistant: Yes. You can connect it to a Wi-fi network.

Luke: Is it avaiable in other colours?

Assistant: It is avaiable in black, white, gold and red.

Luke: Ok. I think I'll take one in gold. How much is it?

Assistant: It's £300.

Nerea: I know about a shop which sells very good steaks. I could buy some.

Nerea: I recommend you Catan and Monopoly. They are very good games!

Lucía: OK. I'll buy them online.

Nerea: And the music?  Do you have some ready?

Lucía: I have some songs, but not all of them.

Writing 8: Do violent films affect your behaviour as people say?

Many people think that if you watch many violent films, if will affect your behaviour in a negative way but, is it really true? I believe it might depend on many facts, like the kind of films or the age of the person who is watching them.

First, there are many kinds of films which include violence and each one does it in a different way. Some films only include arguments and others have fights or even murders. The most violent films are for a 18-year-old or over public, and the others are usually for audiences who are just fro 12 to 16 years old. These films aren't suitable for children because they will try to replicate the violent scenes, but the films aren't made for them so, if a child becomes violent after seeing a violent film, the person responsible is the adult who has given him permission. In addition, an adult won't become aggressive if he sees a violent film. There are a lot of studies which confirm that.

In conclusion, I don't think that watchin violent films can make you aggressive. I think children have an aggressive behaviour because they have seen violent scenes before so, if they haven't seen any, they don't have to behave aggressively.

Writing 16: Telling a story

Hi Nerea,

How are things? You'll never guess what happened to me and my cousin last week! We were  going for a walk when, suddenly, we heard a noise. At first we didn't know what it was but, later, we realized it was a dog! It looked awful.

We didn't know what to do, so we decided to call our parents. A few minutes later, my uncle came and took the dog to the vet. The vet told us the dog must have been hit by a car. Amazingly, it only had a broken leg! It could have been much worse...Finally, my uncle decided to keep it. Its name's Rudy and now he lives with my cousin!

Writing 10 : Persuading someone to do something

A: Hi Ruth, did you know? I'm going to sign up for a cycling race in June! Why don't you cycle with me?

B: A cycling race? I haven't cycled for ages! I am too busy now. I have to study all day.

A: But it's the perfect chance for you to start cycling again! We can train at the weekend if you are busy.

B: You haven't cycled before. Don't you have to train for these things?

A: Well, a bit, but we can start trainig this week.

B: OK. So, where are we going to train?

A: At the cycling club. I think training two or three times a week is eniugh.

B: OK. Why not? And where do we sign up?

A: There you can sign up. It's only 8€.

B: OK. Shall we go tomorrow after school?

A: OK. See you tomorrow, then!

Writing 13: describing a celebration.

On New Year's Eve I always have dinner with my family at my grandparents' house. We have dinner in their livingroom because I have a large family and that room is big enough for us. There are a lot of things to do and we prepare all ourselves: My uncles buy the food, my aunts prepare different dishes and my grandparents put up decorations. Getting everything ready takes days!

The day of the celebration the adults sit around a table and the children sit around another table. We usually cook too much food so it lasts two or three days. After dinner we watch films my mum makes with photos of us. They are so funny! Later in the evening we eat the twelve grapes and we say "Happy new Year!" to each other.

At the end my mum and some of my uncles and aunts go to a pub and dance all night. Last Christmas, I went with them. I had a great time. It was so funny, but I was too tired when I got home!

Writing 09: Describing a local dish.

One of the most famous Spanish dishes is the paella.  Paella consists on rice cooked with vegetables and meat or seafood, and sometimes both of them! It was first cooked by people in Valencia between the XV and XVI century by farmers who needed a dish easy to coo and made with ingredients that they could find in their garden. Since then, the dish has evolved and now you can find it in many bars and restaurants and you can find it in the menu or as a tapa. Many families also visit other family members and cook paella, especially on Sundays.

To cook paella, you need the following ingredients:
- Rice.
- Vegetables (for example: pepper, onion and carrot)
- Pork.
- Seafood.

First, you cook the pork, you have to fry it. Meanwhile, you cut the vegetables into small pieces. After that, you add them and you fry the vegetables and the pork. Next, you add water to the pan. When it boils, you add the rice and, if you like, saffron and some pepper. Afert that, you add the seafood. If you put a lid on it and let it cook gently, it must be ready in about 30 minutes.

This dish is very typical and it's so popular, but the most famous paella is the one they make in Valencia. So, if you want to try an aunthentic paella, try the one they make in Valencia!

A: Hi, Joseph. I was looking for you!
B: Hi, Bella! What's the matter?
A: We have to decide what we are going to do to raise money for the class-end-of-year trip.
B: I think you should do a sponsored cycling ride.
A: If I were you, I would sell lottery tickets with a prize.
B: Emma says we must sell food at school break time.
A: My father told me we have to do a money collection in the town square. He did it once when he was younger and he collected a lot of money!
B: There are too many ideas! I can't decide what to do!
A: Yeah, you're right.Why don't we discuss it with our partners?
B: If I were on your shoes, I would discuss it with the class and vote.
A: But not everyone is going on the trip. You'd better vote online on the class blog.
B: I think we have to talk with our teacher. We can'ty decide!
A: OK. Let's do it tomorrow!

Writing 02: Different between now and your first year at secondary school

Many things have changed since my first year at secondary school. For example, I used to get up at 6:30 because my bus arrived earlier, but now, I get up at 6:50. The subjects that I study have also changed. I used to study music and art, but now I don't do them any more. I used to design games in Robotics, but now I don't do it any longer. I am programming simple robots. Some teachers have changed. In 1º of ESO I had some teachers I don't have any longer because they are retired now.

I also have changed. In my first year at secondary school I used to wear glasses, but now I no longer wear them. I was also very shy in my first year at secondary school, but now I am not that shy and I have many friends!

Writing 04: An email to a pen friend

Hi, Jake.

Thanks for your email. It's great to hear from you!

I live in a small town in the south of Spain, called Molvízar. It's an interesting place because it's near the beach, but it's also near the mountains. So, in summer, I go to the beach once or twicw a week. The weather is so warm and we do lots of outdoor activities like bike riding, boating or barbecues. I love the summer! But I like the winter, too. In winter, I used to go skiing with my family. In Spain, winters aren't as cold as in other countries like Norway or Sweden, but the weather isn't very warm so I prefer spending most of my free time at home doing activities like reading, drawing and listening to music.

Where do you live? What do you do there?

Writing 03: Dialogue.

A: Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Lucy, What's your name?

B: Hi, my name's Logan. Where are you from?

Lucy: I am from Molvízar. It's a small town in the south of Spain. I think Molvízar is so interesting.

Logan: Do you? I don't. In a place like Molvízar there aren't many things to do. That's boring!

Lucy: I agree. There aren't many things to do. But it has a big park with many trees. Do you like parks?

Logan: No, I don't. I prefer cities because you can go to the cinema or go shopping!

Lucy: Do you? I don't. The village is so quiet and healthier than the city. The streets aren't crowded and I think it's less stressful than a city! 

Logan: Do you? So do I! Perhaps living in a village isn't so bad after all.

Life In the year 2222

In my opinion, life in the year 2222 will be very different from life today. There will be many people on Earth. For this reason, the Earth will be polluted, many animals and plants will die, and many of them will disappear. There will be tall buildings so that everyone can have space.

The few animals that will survive will live in zoos. The rubbish we're throwing out will damage the environent, and the effect will be disastrous. As a result, many ecosystems will disappear and animals couln't live in the wild. Global warming will make rise sea levels, and cities that are on the coast will disappear. For this reason, cities in the future will have 3 kilometres' buildings. In these buildings, all will be controlled by robots. People will control robots, but people couldn't go outdoors because of pollution. To move, people will use flying and electric cars.

Life in the future will be catastrophic if we don't protect the environent. I think if we didn't damage Earth, the future will be better. We can make our offspring have a better life by unplugging electrical appliances, planting trees, recycling and reusing old objecs, picking up the rubbish and cleaning up the ecosystems

Hi Albert!
Look at this magazine. There's a photo of my family in it! We're in Austria because we're on holidays. The woman in the red jacket is my mum, and the man who is next to her is my dad. They love skiing  and they taught me to ski when I was younger. My mother is holding my sister, Jamie. It's Jamie's first time skiing, and I taught her. It's strange, she hates cold but she loves skiing! The boy in the blue jacket and orange gloves is my brother, Ryan. He helped me to make the snowman you're looking at. It was so funny. At the beggining we can't decide what to put on the snowman, so we put it my scarf on. You can't see me because I'm taking the photo. I think that it should be better to put my mum's hat  or my dad's sunglasses on, but they don't want to take them off. They said that it's cold. But look at me! I'm freezing!

My cousin's communion

Last Saturday was my cousin's communion. Around 75 friends and family members were there. It was in a restaurant in Dúrcal. It was very exciting and the food was delicious. There was fish and potatoes for children and rice, meat, salad and prawns for adults. There was also ice cream for everyone. The cake was very tasty, and there was a piece for everyone. After the meal, there was music and dancing. There also was photographs and games for the children. There were a lot of presents for my cousin and she was very happy. My dress was quite nice, but my cousin's dress was the most beautiful in the party. It was an enjoyable event and everyone was vey happy.

Paddle

Paddle is a fun sport for children and adults. You play it on a special paddle court with walls. There are two teams with two players in each one. You use a ball similar to a tennis ball and a paddle racket with holes. You must hit the ball with the racket. The ball can rebound on the balls and the floor. When the other team don't hit the ball you get a number of points. With a high number of points you get a set. You win when you get  three sets.
